We're Back...

Yup...we're back home! North Carolina is so beautiful, so different from Arizona. It was so nice to visit with Kim and Steve, and help them settle into their new apartment...for all of 4 months until their deployment. Geez, I'll miss them so much!

Had a lot of firsts on this trip...

* First time nearly running out of gas in the middle of nowhere. (NOT my fault...I always fill up at 1/2 a tank on road trips, but the only station available at the time was an unlit creepy single pump...like out of a horror movie. And at 3am, I thought it was wise of me to move on!)

* First time experiencing black ice and skidding off the road into a snow bank. This is one of many reasons why I live in Arizona!

* First time driving that far across the country and for 40 hours straight. I started forgetting just how long and what day it was since we'd been in the car for so long!

* First time narrowly missing making additions to the roadkill population. Stupid Jackrabbits and ELK!

I'll post the few pics we took shortly...but there's not much cuz we didn't do anything! Just sat around watchin' Star Trek movies, playin' Mario Cart, and generally just vegging-out. Too bad we were so lazy, there was a zoo and a botanical garden I thought the kids would enjoy. Oh well...next time! Perhaps a trip when they get home from deployment...

AND...
My computer is working again! The motherboard crapped out so I had to use John's for two weeks. But it's back...thank goodness! We thought it was my hard drive, so I was prepared that I lost almost everything. But nope! All is saved and accessible again, so hopefully I'll be able to finally get more of my projects finished up and all my files backed up. It's hard to do since they're constantly changing!

I must say...my husband rocks...seriously. He always manages to fix my computer before I have a total melt down of anxiety. It's just one more reason (out of about a million) why I can't live without him.

Portable Microwaves?

My mother in law sent this to me...now if it's true, that's kinda scary. And we hold these thing up to our ears?

Now I know just like everyone else that you can't believe everything you see...so I'm gonna try this when we get out to NC and there are 4 cell phones together. Should be interesting.

To Birthday or Not to Birthday...

...And Other Updates...

Well, Riley is now three years old and he's growing like a little vine!

This was supposed to be a posting of his birthday party, but he hasn't had one yet. It was planned for the 28th, but unfortunate circumstances stopped our 'merry-making'. John's Grandfather passed away after a brief battle with kidney failure and other ailments. Quickly making arrangements, we postponed the party until the next Sunday so John could spend the week with his father and relatives in New York. I'm glad he decided to go (with a bit of pushing from me...). Although the kids missed him terribly, he said it was so good to visit with his Aunts and Uncles, who he hasn't seen in 10 years.

So the next Sunday was set for Riley's party until I got a call that morning as I was getting off work...Riley has a fever and can't keep anything in his tummy. Birthday party plans foiled again!

So now his party will (God willing) be held in a few weeks since for the next two weekends we'll be in North Carolina visiting Kim and Steve at their new home/base. And yes...we're driving.

I'm both looking forward to the drive and kinda dreading it. I LOVE road trips and driving long distances, yet the kids have never had a trip this long. Riley's never been on a trip longer and up to Blueridge for camping (3 hours) and Ivy's only been as far as San Antonio, TX...plus on that trip, we stopped in El Paso for the night. For this trip, we hope to drive straight through. On the plus side, we're leaving a few hours before bedtime so everyone gets to sleep through the first 10 hours.

Ooh...maybe I'll get to update from NC with the handful of fun things we have planned!

So cross your fingers for us! Hopefully this will go smoothly!
